Coast & Harbor Engineering performed a feasibility and preliminary level engineering services for the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA, formerly LDNR) as part of shoreline stabilization project to provide storm damage reduction and a usable recreational beach along the Gulf shoreline from Elmer’s Island to Barataria Pass. CHE developed a comprehensive plan of solutions designed to increase shoreline stability, including: Barataria Pass Jetty Rehabilitation, Caminada Pass Jetty Rehabilitation, Breakwater Modification, LA1 Breach Protection, Sediment Bypassing at Caminada Pass, Grand Isle Beach Nourishment, and Elmer’s Island Dune and Marsh Creation. For each component, multiple alternatives were developed and their performance was tested through numerical modeling. CHE also provided an itemized construction cost estimate with quantities, unit costs, and total costs for all project components.
